Our Christmas Trees

For over five decades, Sugar Plum Farms has been growing North Carolina Fraser firs at elevation in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our trees develop dense branches, beautiful blue-green needles, and a fragrance that fills your home all season long β€” quality that keeps families coming back year after year.

How It Compares

Needle Retention

Fraser fir is prized as one of the longest-lasting cut Christmas trees β€” its stiff, upward-curving needles resist dropping far longer than Douglas fir or spruce, especially with fresh water and a clean base cut.

Branch Strength

Sturdy, slightly upturned branches hold heavy ornaments and strings of lights without sagging β€” a common complaint with softer-branched varieties.

Fragrance

A clean, classic evergreen scent that's less resinous than balsam fir and lasts the full season indoors.

Elevation-Grown

Grown above 3,000 feet in Avery County's Blue Ridge climate β€” the elevation and cool nights Fraser fir needs to develop its density and color.

Fraser Fir FAQ

How long does a Fraser fir last?

A freshly cut Fraser fir typically lasts 4–6 weeks indoors with proper care β€” a fresh half-inch cut at the base before it goes in the stand, and daily watering to keep the base submerged.

Does a Fraser fir shed its needles?

Every real tree sheds some needles over time, but Fraser fir is one of the best-retaining varieties available β€” its stiff needles hold on far longer than softer-needled species when the tree is kept watered.

When should I cut my Christmas tree?

We're open for choose & cut November 14 through December 20. Given a Fraser fir's strong needle retention, trees cut anytime in that window will comfortably last through the holidays.

Do you sell Fraser fir wholesale?
